Brewers closer Devin Williams on impressive strikeout streak
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Devin Williams. Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams is one of the best relievers in the game. His airbending change up is one of the most difficult pitches to make contact with and he pairs this with a great fastball. To begin the 2023 season game flow has only allowed him to pick up two saves, but his performance on the mound over the last three games has been incredible.

Over his last three appearances, Williams has struck out the side each time. This means that all nine outs have come via the strikeout. While early in the season, this leaves his strikeout statistics insanely high. He currently has a 16.50 K/9 ratio and a 47.8% K rate.

To make things even sweeter, Williams is striking out some of the league’s best hitters over the past three games as well. This streak started Thursday night in San Diego when he struck out Juan Soto, Xander Bogaerts and Nelson Cruz. During his next game, a save against the Padres, he retired Nelson Cruz, Jake Cronenworth and Trent Grisham. Lastly, against the Mariners, he struck out Jarred Kelenic, Cooper Hummel and Kolten Wong.

Williams has a career 14.56 K:9 ratio and 39.8% K rate, so as insane as his recent stretch has been, the results have produced numbers that are only slightly above his career averages.
