Manchester City and England right-back Kyle Walker has once again openly stated that he would love to end his career at Sheffield United, the club in which he graduated from.

The 33-year-old standout secured a two-year contract extension at the Etihad during the summer and is now aiming for an unprecedented double-treble this season. Despite being a considered an ageing player in football terms, Walker is still arguably the best right-back in the world at this moment in time.

In the summer, Walker’s name surfaced in connection with the Blades following their promotion. However, German powerhouse Bayern Munich were ready to swoop in if he decided to move on from the Etihad Stadium, which made a deal with United unlikely.

Kyle Walker to return to Sheffield United?

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast, the boyhood Blade stated: “I don’t want to drop down too low because, no disrespect, but I feel the lower it gets, I think it gets harder. Certain things that you have the luxury of at City, whether facilities, nutrition, this, that or the other. But I’d like to finish at Sheffield United. That’s something that I would actually like to do.

“I was there from such a young age until that until I went to Tottenham and I only played five [league] games before I went to Tottenham, and then went back on loan for half a season. So I think I’ve got like 35 games and I’d like to go for as long as possible, to give back or even pass on my experience to the younger players that are coming through or players that are there then. If I can do that, then I’d like to, yeah.”

Of course, Sheffield United are no strangers to a reunion; Blades academy product Phil Jagielka came back to the club in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign after spending over a decade at Everton.

If Kyle Walker is true to his word then that would be a fairy tale ending to his excellent career, but I guess we’ll find out in a couple of years time.
